If anyone told you that MS Dhoni would not only turn back the clock but create new memories after having already turned 43, you would take it with both hands.
Something of that sort happened during the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clash in match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on April 14 (Monday) in Lucknow.
In the final over of the LSG innings, Abdul Samad, while batting at the striker’s end, got a wide down the leg from Matheesha Pathirana. However, in an attempt to get in-form skipper Rishabh Pant back on strike, he ran for a single.
However, Samad ran casually as he never would have thought that a ball so wide would be collected and then thrown at the stumps, and the wicketkeeper, with his gloves on, would hit the stumps directly with an underarm throw. But all of that happened as the wicketkeeper was none other than the legendary MSD.
Having collected the ball down the leg, Dhoni threw it at the stumps on the non-striker’s end with a slinging under-arm throw. Samad ran by changing his course from running on the off-side of the pitch to going on the on-side and thereby made his route a bit longer, giving enough time for even the under-arm throw to get him out.
But hitting the stumps with that precision, where it seemed like a yorker was bowled to light up the bails, well, only Dhoni could do it at 43 years of age.
