Babar Azam’s form and performance have yet again disappointed fans as the premier batter went out for a duck against the West Indies in the 2nd ODI at Tarouba in the Caribbean.
After scoring a just satisfactory 47 in the first ODI that Pakistan won by five wickets, Babar stepped out to bat at 37/1 after Pakistan lost Saim Ayub in the ninth over after opting to bat first. Pacer Jayden Seales was on a roll after picking up Ayub’s wicket, and the first two balls he bowled to Babar were dot balls.
He sent the third one a bit full, and it moved off the seam just enough to miss Babar’s bat, whose balance fell off while playing a flick, and he could only swipe through clean air. The ball penetrated the gap between his bat and pad, clipped the pads, and smashed into the stumps.
Babar was left stunned at the dismissal and tried to show that he was left dumbstruck by the brilliance of the delivery. While it was a good ball, Babar’s approach to the full ball was questionable, as he went to play with the half-face of the bat against the moving delivery and ended up losing his timber. Pakistan fell into further trouble after his dismissal and have lost six wickets by the time of writing this report with the score being 139/6 in 33.5 overs.
This continued his poor run of form in the ODIs, where he’s averaging barely above 30 this year at a slow strike-rate of 80. Meanwhile, he has already lost his place in the T20I side because of his slow batting.
