Lucky once but not twice.
Aiden Markram was let off very early on in the innings when the South African batter was on 4, when KL Rahul swiped at a simple catch at first slip in the Guwahati Test, on November 22 (Saturday).
While Jasprit Bumrah was certainly frustrated with the dropped opportunity, he bounced back like a champion, dismissing Markram later on with an absolute peach. With South Africa’s opening partnership brewing and brewing danger, at 82/0, Indian skipper Rishabh Pant threw the ball back to his trusted bowler, Bumrah.
The 31-year-old didn’t disappoint, with a brilliant setup to dismiss Markram. Bumrah brought the ball back enough for Markram to get an inside edge, as the ball went on to disturb timber. Immediately after his dismissal, the South African batter couldn’t hold back his disappointment, as he let out a huge cry.
And, for India, it was a wicket after a long toil on the field, after being asked to bowl first in the second Test. It was the fourth time that Bumrah had dismissed Markram in the red-ball format, with the Indian pacer now averaging 26.75 against the South African.
