Tempers flared in the 2024/25 CSA 4-Day Series final between Lions and Titans when seasoned all-rounder Bjorn Fortuin gave Dewald Brevis a send-off on April 14 (Monday). Fortuin gave an earful to Brevis, who was dismissed for a first-ball duck as the 21-year-old turned around to respond.
With scores of 99, 148 and 80 across his last three innings, Brevis walked into the final in red-hot form. However, as it turned out, the right-hander was undone the very first delivery, as Lutho Sipamla’s delivery rose to square him up.
Just when Brevis turned around and was walking towards the dressing room, the Lions’ players were celebrating over the board, with all-rounder Fortuin giving the youngster an earful. The 21-year-old stopped and turned around before he had to walk off ultimately after a verbal beef between the two players.
On the back of Zubayr Hamza’s century, the Lions got themselves to 413/7d in the first innings. However, the Titans collapsed under pressure, with only contributions from Keegan Petersen (50) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (30) taking them to 123. That wasn’t enough as they were forced into following on, where Brevis failed yet again, getting out for a 28-ball 26.
