Former Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope was dismissed in a bizarre fashion while representing Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) against Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 on August 30 (Saturday).
The unusual dismissal occurred on the first ball of the 15th over. TKR seamer Terrance Hinds bowled a wide delivery well outside off, and Hope attempted to play a reverse sweep. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, he ended up dragging his bat on the follow-through back onto the stumps, leaving the crowd and opposition in shock.
Both Hinds and TKR captain Nicholas Pooran could barely contain their excitement after witnessing Hope’s blunder after he had scored 39 off 29 balls. The Amazon Warriors could only manage a below-par total of 163/9 on a good Tarouba pitch.
In response, TKR openers, Alex Hales and Colin Munro, dominated the innings. Hales played a brilliant knock of 74 runs off just 43 balls, while Munro contributed a quickfire 52 off 30 deliveries. The pair put on an explosive 116-run partnership in just 10.3 overs, effectively killing the contest in the early part of the second innings.
Andre Russell then finished the game in style, scoring an unbeaten 27 off 14 balls, guiding TKR to victory with 16 deliveries to spare. The comprehensive win further cemented the Knight Riders’ position at the top of the CPL 2025 points table, with five wins out of six matches so far. Meanwhile, Guyana Amazon Warriors have won two and lost two of their four games, placing them at No.4 in the standings.
