Glenn Phillips, who was in the limelight for not being picked by the Gujarat Titans (GT), in spite of them playing only two overseas players in their last two matches (against RCB and SRH), got injured, without even featuring in the playing 11.
In Gujarat's game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6 (Sunday) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Phillips was on the field as a substitute, and he was just normally fielding the ball and while throwing it to the non-striker’s end, he injured himself, going down on the ground immediately.
The match was stopped as the physio rushed in to examine Phillips, who was grimacing in pain and had to be taken off the ground.
Phillips, coming off a great ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he did well in all three departments (with bat, ball and on the field), was expected to be part of the Titans, playing 11 from the very first match.
But the Titans did not give Phillips a go as they have two solid spinners in R Sai Koshore and Rashid Khan. They batted deep with the likes of Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler at the top and Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan to finish the games.
They have preferred Sherfane Rutherford as a middle-order batting option instead of Phillips, and it looks like they might not have Phillips's services any time soon.
