Seattle Orcas hadn’t won a single game in the 2025 season of Major League Cricket (MLC). After MI New York scored 237/4 courtesy a splendid 108*(60) from Nicholas Pooran and 95(35) from Tajinder Singh, the hopes of that win seemed gone, however, Shimron Hetmyer (97* off 40) played one of the knocks of his T20 career to help them win their first game.
Albeit, it wasn’t without drama in the last over. The Orcas needed just nine from six deliveries after Hetmyer and Kyle Myers (37 off 20) had taken them within grasping distance of the win. However, Keiron Pollard, who was bowling the last over, bowled three dots and conceded only three runs in the first five deliveries.
With six needed off the last delivery, Pollard bowled the ball on the fuller side of good length, but it was angling down the leg side. Hetmyer went on one knee and walloped it over the square leg fence for a maximum to win the game for his team.
Notably, it was the highest successful chase in MLC history. This was the first win for the Orcas after losing five games in a row earlier, which also led them to make a change in the captain and coach right before this sixth game.
Sikander Raza replaced Heinrich Klaasen as the new Orcas' skipper as the Proteas decided to focus on his responsibilities as a batter. Meanwhile, coach Matthew Mott was removed, citing differences in coaching and management strategies.
