Due to persistent rain, only 41 overs were possible on day one of the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on August 21 (Wednesday). Pakistan ended the day at 158/4, with Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan unbeaten on 57 and 24, respectively.
Asked to bat, Pakistan lost three wickets with just 16 runs on the board. Abdullah Shafique fell to Hasan Mahmud, while Shoriful Islam undid skipper Shan Masood and Babar Azam. That’s when Saim Ayub (56) and Saud Shakeel put on 98 runs for the fourth wicket.
It was Hasan Mahmud who broke the partnership by dismissing Ayub but Shakeel and Rizwan managed to see off the remaining overs. The two have already added 44 runs for the fourth wicket and will hope to build on it when play resumes on day two.
