Karun Nair has had a fantastic domestic season and he continued the same form in the final of the Ranji Trophy for Vidarbha.
In the first innings of the final in Nagpur, he was unlucky to get runout on 86 by Kerala’s Rohan Kunnummal due to a misunderstanding. However, he didn’t waste his form in the second innings, as Vidarbha extended their lead over Kerala by more than 250 runs. When writing this report, he’s still batting at 100* off 193 deliveries with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
This was his ninth century in the 2024/25 season, with five coming in the 50-over competition Vijay Hazare Trophy and four in the Ranji Trophy. This Ranji season, he has scored 828 runs at an average of 55.2, getting dismissed only after playing 109 deliveries on average.
He brought up his century by taking a single towards midwicket against off-spinner Jalal Saxena and calmly celebrated it. He also gestured nine fingers towards the dressing room, representing his nine centuries this domestic season. With the England tour in the latter half of the year, he has also given a knock on the selectors' doors.
He helped Vidarbha rush far ahead of Kerala by tea time on the fourth day. The home team is leading by 226 runs and still have seven wickets in the tank.
