KL Rahul made a sensational debut for his new franchise, Delhi Capitals, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, when he hit 14 off the first three balls, playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and lit up the VDCA-ACA YSR Reddy Stadium in Vizag (Visakhapatnam) on March 30 (Sunday).
Playing his first match of the season, Rahul was lucky to hit a four first ball against Mohammed Shami. The ball, on length, got a thick inside edge and went for a four behind the stumps.
The next ball was wide and then on his second ball that Rahul faced, he smoked the fuller ball over deep mid-wicket for a six. On the third ball, which was also a bit full outside off, Rahul went inside out and hit for a four over extra cover.
This was Rahul’s best ever first three balls in his IPL career, bettering his record of 13 off the first three balls he scored against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), while playing for Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in 2018.
However, Rahul’s innings did not last long as a beautiful leg break from debutant Zeeshan Ansari rattled his stumps as the ball pitched on leg and then zipped through past the batter’s sweeping willow.
