Glenn Maxwell might be going through a lean patch with the bat, but he is still one of the best fielders in the world. After scoring just 1 off 5 when he got a chance to bat in Australia’s first innings of the home T20I series against South Africa, Maxwell bowled well for 1/29 in his four overs in a chase of 179.Â
However, his best effort in the game came in the field when South Africa needed 21 off five deliveries in the last over and Ryan Rickleton, who had already scored 71 off 55 deliveries, was on the crease.Â
Ben Dwarshuis had already bowled a dot ball on the first ball of the over, after executing a well-disguised, slowed ball. On the next one, Rickleton launched Dwarshuis over long-on when he bowled one on the full side of a good length outside off, but Maxwell pulled off an absolute stunner at the boundary.Â

He caught the ball mid-air and lobbed it up just before landing outside the boundary. Then he turned in a split second and grabbed the ball after coming inside the boundary line. As per the new regulations of the MCC, while taking relay catches at the boundary, if a fielder jumps from outside the boundary, they can only touch the ball once while airborne and must land inside the field of play to complete the catch.Â
Maxwell fulfilled that criteria, and the catch was deemed legal as commentators started gushing over his fielding and Rickleton made his way back to the pavilion. South Africa lost the game by 17 runs eventually.Â
