WATCH: MS Dhoni Returns To Cricket Field Months Before IPL 2026 - Here's Why

The India and CSK legend was in Madurai to inaugurate their new cricket stadium

MS Dhoni, one of the greatest captains of all time, returned to a cricket field recently. It was to inaugurate a new stadium in Madurai, developed by the Velammal Educational Trust with support from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

He also played a couple of deliveries bowled to him by a few young boys at the venue. INR 325 crore was spent on building the stadium near Velammal Hospital on Chinthamani Ring Road in Madurai, sitting on 11.5 acres of land. The capacity of the Velammal Cricket Stadium is believed to 7,300.

The facilities at the venue include an international-standard pitch, LED floodlights, modern dressing rooms, a digital scoreboard, practice nets, a gymnasium, and dedicated media and VIP galleries.

Speaking at the event, Dhoni said,  “The Velammal Cricket Stadium is not just a ground, it is a dream field for the next generation of cricketers. Facilities like this will shape future champions."
