New Zealand set India a target of 252 in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on March 9 (Sunday).
After New Zealand opted to bat first, Rachin Ravindra took the attack to India in the powerplay. The left-handed opener smashed Hardik Pandya for two fours and a six in the fourth over and then got two fours off Mohammed Shami.
Ravindra (37 off 29) and Will Young (15 off 23) added 57 runs for the first wicket before Varun Chakaravarthy got rid of the latter to give India the first breakthrough. Kuldeep Yadav then dismissed in-form Ravindra and Kane Williamson (11) to bring India back into the game.
Indian spinners took control thereafter and kept New Zealand batters in check in the middle overs. Daryl Mitchell scored 63 but took 101 deliveries to get those runs, also registering the third-slowest fifty in the final of an ICC white-ball event.
Michael Bracewell, however, slammed 53* off 40 deliveries to get New Zealand to a challenging total of 251/7. For India, Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep picked up two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja took 1/30 in his 10 overs.
