Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was brought back into the Indian Test side, only managed to score one off six balls in the second Test on July 2 (Wednesday) at Edgbaston in Birmingham. But it wasn’t his score that was disappointing, but rather his leave, that got his stumps rearranged most hilariously.
The all-rounder made his place in the Indian side at the expense of Shardul Thakur, after the Mumbaikar’s lacklustre performance in the first Test. Coming in at No.6, India’s hero at MCG, couldn’t really get going, struggling to put bat on ball amidst Chris Woakes’ searching spell.
The English all-rounder made the ball hop around in the air, and got the ball to seam a long way into the right-hander’s defence. Unfortunately for Reddy, who left the moving ball, he was left with hearing the sound of the timber as he walked back for a six-ball one on his Test comeback.
Earlier in the Test, India got off to the worst start possible, as KL Rahul exited pretty early on, for a 26-ball two. Karun Nair, however, joined hands with Yashasvi Jaiswal to give the visitors a much-needed push, with a 50-ball 31, with five boundaries.
And when Reddy got his chance to make a significant contribution, the all-rounder failed.
