The Indian women clinched their first ever T20I series (more than one match) against England Women, and they did so in style by beating the English at home 3-2 in a five-match series. However, the Indian women failed to have a dominant show by winning the fifth and final match on July 12 at Birmingham and clinching the series 4-1.
In the last-ball finish, which also marked the highest successful run chase by England women in T20Is, India’s Radha Yadav carved a niche for herself as she took a stunning forward diving catch that left the crowd stunned and the internet in awe after the same was shared by Sony LIV on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter).
The action unfolded in the final over itself as England needed five off four balls, and with Radha’s stunning catch, it came down to five off three, and the match was dragged to the last ball.
With one needed off the last ball, it was pure cinema as Smriti Mandhana tried an underarm throw against Sophie Ecclestone, who was running towards the bowler’s end to complete the single and win the match, chasing down 168.
Radha, who scored 14 (14) and bowled brilliantly to concede just 20 runs in her four overs, taking a wicket on the way, is now in the fifth position in terms of fielders with most catches in T20Is for India. She has taken 33 catches in 88 innings behind Veda Krishnamurthy (38), Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana (39) and Harmanpreet Kaur (68).
