Manchester Originals skipper Phil Salt produced a moment of brilliance on the field with a stunning one-handed catch against Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2025 clash at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on August 19 (Tuesday).
The spectacular effort came in the second innings of the contest when Rockets’ left-handed batter Max Holden mistimed a slower delivery from Josh Tongue. The ball looked set to drop into the gap at mid-off, but Salt reacted instantly. Diving full stretch to his right, Salt plucked the ball out of thin air with one hand, leaving fans and teammates in awe.
While the catch drew plenty of admiration, it ultimately had little impact on the result. The Rockets chased down the modest target comfortably, cruising to a seven-wicket win after restricting the Originals to just 98/8 in their allotted 100 balls.
Salt, who was one of the standout performers in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) triumphant IPL 2025 campaign, could not replicate the same magic with the bat on the night. Opening the innings, he managed 19 off 20 deliveries before being dismissed by leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed.
For the Originals, it has been a frustrating campaign so far. With only two wins from six fixtures, they find themselves languishing in the lower half of The Hundred 2025 points table. Salt himself has had a mixed run with the bat, scoring 163 runs in six innings at an average of 27.16 and a strike rate of 133.60.
