Watch: Ruturaj Gaikwad Shares Player Of The Match Award With Double Centurion Prithvi Shaw

In a display of sportsmanship, Ruturaj Gaikwad invited his teammate Prithvi Shaw to share the Player of the Match award following Maharashtra’s dominant win over Chandigarh in their Group B encounter of the Ranji Trophy.

Shaw had powered Maharashtra’s success by smashing 222 runs in the second innings, which became the third-fastest double-ton in the tournament’s history. It laid the foundation for a 144-run victory; however, Gaikwad’s 116 in the first innings was considered more important, and he was given the Player of the Match award for it. 

After the match, rather than keeping sole recognition for himself, he chose to share the accolade with Shaw as a nod to his teammate’s contribution in the second innings, which helped the side go for a win.

Shaw’s form has re-emerged in this Ranji season strongly after a difficult recent period. Just last week, he recorded a duck in his first innings, but he bounced back with a fifty in the same fixture, and now this double-hundred.

Notably, Shaw had moved on from Mumbai before this season and joined the Maharashtra team, where he has enjoyed quite a bit of success so far. It remains to be seen how the rest of his season goes, as a good season here could get the talented batter back in reckoning for the Indian side.
