Shreyas Iyer would have been gearing up for a strong innings against his former side, Kolkata Knight Riders, in Mullanpur after his ties with them were severed before the mega auction, and Punjab Kings picked him for a mind-boggling INR 26.75 Crore.
However, the reality turned out to be different as the Kings' skipper departed for a two-ball duck after being dismissed by his Indian teammate Harshit Rana in the fourth over of the day.
PBKS had a decent start until that point with only Priyansh Arya getting dismissed and Prabhsimran Singh having began the bashing from the other end. Rana bowled the fourth ball short and wide to the PBKS skipper, who slashed his bat hard at it. The ball flew straight to Ramandeen Singh, who was stationed at a deep point, and took a splendid diving catch to complete the wicket.
Rana ended up getting three in the powerplay and became the only Indian bowler for KKR to get three wickets in the first six overs.
Meanwhile, this is just the second duck scored by Iyer since the start of the 2017 IPL. His only other duck in the last nine seasons came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Kolkata last year.
Interestingly, Iyer has scored heavily away from his home ground in Mullanpur — 231 runs at an average of 231. Meanwhile, at home, he has scored only 19 runs at an average of just 6.33.
