WATCH: Smith Takes Revenge On Will Jacks With OUTRAGEOUS One-Handed Grab At Slip

Smith himself ended up taking a 'catch of the year' contender

On the second day of the ongoing Gabba Test, Steve Smith looked certain for yet another Test and Ashes ton, but he was undone by Will Jacks, who took one of the catches of the year to send the Australian skipper packing.

Smith seemed to have safely negotiated a bumper from Brydon Carse but Jacks dove full stretch to his right and grabbed it with one hand to dismiss him and break the innings open.

48 hours later, Smith has now got his revenge on Jacks - via arguably an even better grab, diving full stretch to his left to pocket a one-handed stunner at slip.

With England six down, Australia would have entered day four hoping to wrap things up early, but the first four hours did not go as per plan at all for the hosts. Jacks and Ben Stokes showed incredible resilience as they not only helped the side take the lead, but managed to bat out the entire first session without losing a wicket. They picked up from where they left off after the break as well, and post drinks in the second session, the lead edged towards 50.

The partnership was edging towards 100, and the pair was frustrating Australia big time, facing over 200 deliveries while barely playing a false stroke. Magic was required for the Aussies to break the stand, and it was at this moment that the side’s magician, Smith, pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

The ever-consistent Michael Neser was bowling an extremely disciplined, testing line with the wicketkeeper up to the stumps, and he managed to get one delivery to nip away and take the outside edge of Jacks. With there being no carry on the surface, the ball looked like it would die on its way to the slips, but Smith produced one of his best ever catches to stun the batter.

He crouched low, dove to his left and stuck out his left hand to pocket one of the most outrageous grabs of his career. A catch so good that it was arguably better than the one that dismissed him, which in itself was a ‘catch of the year’ contender.
