Defending 144, you need your best spinner, Sophie Ecclestone, to be at her best on February 16. The English left-arm spinner did not disappoint with an early wicket to send back Gujarat Giants’ No.3 Dayalan Hemalatha.
But with Ashleigh Gardner and Laura Wolvaardt stroking the ball around the park, Warriorz’ skipper Deepti Sharma tossed the ball back to Women’s Premier League (WPL)’s best bowler, Ecclestone. The left-arm spinner bowled tight lines before she castled Wolvaardt, who didn’t have any sort of room.
It continued the negative match-up for the South African batter, who was dismissed for the sixth time against Ecclestone. The English all-rounder increased her WPL wickets tally to 29, and she has a real opportunity to become the first bowler in league history to take 30 wickets.
