Bangladesh got off to an excellent start after Taskin Ahmed cleaned up New Zealand opener Will Young for a duck in the first over of the chase in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Moreover, it was a wicket maiden as well. After putting up just 236 on the board, Bangladesh needed a good start if they wanted to stay in the game, and Taskin ensured that was the case.
Taskin got the first wicket in the previous game as well - against India - dismissing Rohit Sharma for 41. He now has four wickets in the Champions Trophy, the most for any Bangladesh fast bowler. However, Bangladesh went down by six wickets in the game against India and they need to beat New Zealand in this game to stay alive in the series.
The 29-year-old will hope that he gets support from the other end to make it happen. Bangladesh have roped in the express pace of Nahid Rana, who has got the massive wicket of Kane Williamson to give their side a good chance.
If Bangladesh lose this game, they will be out of contention for a place in the semi-final. However, New Zealand, who beat Pakistan by six wickets in the tournament opener, will qualify for the final four with a win.
