WWE’s Big Show has entertained wrestling fans all over the United States of America (USA) and the world with his dominating presence in the ring. However, this time it was cricket’s Big Show, Glenn Maxwell, who made his presence felt at the iconic Oakland stadium as he smashed his first hundred in Major League Cricket (MLC).
Playing for the Washington Freedom, Maxwell blew away the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) bowling and smashed 106* in just 49 deliveries after coming to bat in a precarious situation for his side. Maxwell rescued his team from 68/4 in 7.2 overs and took them to 208/5 at the end of the first innings with the help of 13 sixes and two fours. This was Maxwell’s seventh T20 century overall.
It was a one-man job for the Freedom, as Mitch Owen (32 off 11) was the only other batter who scored more than 30.
Meanwhile, LAKR were meek with the bat in reply, as Aussie pace bowling all-rounders Jack Edwards (3/15) and Owens (3/18) picked three wickets each to dismiss the entire team on just 95. Despite having powerful batters like Alex Hales, Andre Russell and Rovman Powell, no one was able to repeat Maxwell’s feat in the second innings as LAKR suffered a heavy defeat by 113 runs.
After this win, Washington have two wins in three games and are in the third spot. Meanwhile, LAKR have lost all three games so far and are in the 5th spot in the six-team competition.
Brief scores: Washington Freedom 208/5 in 20 overs (Maxwell 106*, Owen 32; Dry 2-33, Sangha 2-38) defeat Los Angeles Knight Riders 95/10 in 15.3 overs (Badar 32; Edwards 3-15, Owen 3-18) by 113 runs
