Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s troubles at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium continued tonight against Delhi Capitals (DC) as they slipped to their second consecutive home defeat of the season, failing to defend 164 on a two-paced wicket.
RCB got off to an absolute flyer, getting over 50 runs inside the first three overs, but they endured a collapse. 61/0 in 3.4 overs became 91/4 in 9.3 overs and RCB eventually ended up with 163/7, which proved not enough on the night.
Skipper Rajat Patidar felt that the batters failed to assess and adapt to the conditions.
“It wasn't acceptable to go from 80 for 1 to 90 for 4 [sic], we have a good batting line-up. As a batting unit, we failed to read and assess the conditions tonight,” Patidar said at the post-match presentation.
But he felt it was a big positive for RCB that Tim David yet again showed up during the slog overs. David scored 37* off 20 balls as RCB collected 36 off the final two overs of their innings.
“The way Tim David batted, that was a big positive for us. The way our seamers bowled in the powerplay was also a big positive,” Patidar said.
RCB have a 100% away record in IPL 2025, and their next game will be an away game in Jaipur against Rajasthan during the weekend. But Patidar said that his side aren’t thinking too much about their away record.
“We aren't thinking about our away record, but we just need to play good cricket and keep it simple,” Patidar said.
