We let ourselves down in the field: KL Rahul

LSG fielders gave a couple of reprieves to Rajat Patidar, who cashed in on it to score a terrific century for RCB

Lucknow Super Giants were one of the most impressive sides in the tournament, right from recruitment to getting the bases covered, but on a night they needed their stars to be aligned in a single direction, things went pretty haywire. RCB’s Rajat Patidar not only made a mockery of their bowling but was also helped by some insipid fielding effort from the Lucknow players.

KL Rahul found that the dropped catches were one of the prime factors behind Lucknow being knocked out of the IPL 2022 despite the best efforts of their batters to see the chase through.

"I think it's quite obvious - the reasons why we didn't win. We let ourselves down in the field. Dropping easy catches never helps. The difference was obviously Patidar playing such a knock. When someone in the top three scores a hundred, more often the team wins. They fielded really well and we were poor," Rahul said in the post-match presentation.

On a night, runs came thick and fast, and every single Lucknow bowler was taken for cleaners, Mohsin Khan conceded just 25 runs in four overs while dismissing RCB skipper Faf du Plessis for a golden duck. His line and length had been superb throughout the tournament - making him one of the prime contenders for an India call-up sooner than later.

"We'll take back a lot of positives. It's a new franchise. We've made a lot of mistakes, every team does that. Have to try and come back stronger. It's a young team. They'll learn from their mistakes, go back home and try and be better players.

"Mohsin showed everybody how good he is and what skill he possesses. As he grows with confidence, he'll be able to clock speeds which are much higher. He will learn and develop a few more skills hopefully by next season," said Rahul.
