This is a welcome statement from the Australian left-hander, especially since the ODI World Cup has been going through an identity crisis of sorts. The lack of close games has been cited as a major reason the ODI format has lost its shine.
Even in today’s game, the Aussies defeated the Dutch side by 309 runs by bowling them out for just 90 after scoring 399.
Warner said about his own 104 in today’s game, which was later overshadowed by Glenn Maxwell’s blitzkrieg of 106 in just 44 balls, “I know I have the ability to bat in these conditions and it's about backing your skill. I ran a two for my mate [Steve Smith]. He nearly ran me out [laughs], I will remember this for a long time. I pride myself on my fitness. Kohli does it, too. Running hard for yourself as well for your team-mate.”
It was a perfect game for Australia, who had to survive a proper scare in the tournament after losing their first two games in the tournament. Speaking about the game, skipper Pat Cummins said, “Really happy, complete game. To put 400 on board and then defend well, couldn't be happier. “
