We will give ourselves some time to play a long innings : Jitesh Sharma

Sharma stated that the side are going to change their approach of “going only aggressive” to more balanced version with the bat

Jitesh Sharma has been one of the most impressive debutants this season, scoring at an average of 30.50 to go with an impressive strike rate of 164.86. Not only has he provided stability to Punjab Kings’ innings, but he has also provided some breath-taking performances down the order to save the side from crashing earlier than usual.

On the other hand, half of Punjab batters haven’t been in great form and that’s why they find themselves at the bottom half of the point table. On Wednesday (April 20) against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Punjab decided to leave Smith out of the playing XI and brought in Australian paceman Nathan Ellis, hence weakening their batting even further. The Punjab batters walked out with a similar approach but were bowled out for just 115 in 20 overs. Then, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner went berserk in the second innings and Delhi chased down the total with 9.3 overs to spare.

However, in the wake of a loss to Delhi Capitals, where Jitesh Sharma emerged as the highest scorer in the face of a batting implosion, the Vidarbha batter stated that  are going to change their approach of “going only aggressive” to more balanced version with the bat.

“We have decided only one approach for this tournament, which is to play attacking cricket. We probably have not been able to apply it based on the situation we are in,” said Sharma.

“We just had a meeting about it. The player sat down and talked about the issue at hand. As you can see that everyone in the line-up is a match-winner, and we are waiting for one-two people to click on a game. We have decided that we will give ourselves some time to settle in the game and play long innings and gain back the confidence that we have lost,” Sharma revealed.

Punjab Kings will take on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25.
