Over the last few years, under head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes, England have played an attacking brand of cricket, commonly referred to as Bazball. However, in the third Test against India at Lord's, they shifted from that approach and dug deep to put up 387 runs in 112.3 overs.
Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took a dig at England's batting approach, admitting he was surprised by the way they went about their business.
“It was a good day for England. But everyone believed they would continue with Bazball. What we saw instead was Prankball. Their run rate dropped, and they looked far more defensive than expected," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin lauded Joe Root, who slammed his 37th Test ton, saying it was a proper lesson on how to play in the Test arena.
“I’ve said earlier that Joe Root scoring runs is very important for England. And just when it was needed, he delivered. That knock was a proper lesson in how to play Test cricket. Root is back,” he said.
India ended Day 2 on 145/3, still trailing England by 242 runs with seven wickets in hand. KL Rahul (53*) and Rishabh Pant (19*) will resume Day 3 in a bid to close in on England's total.
