West Indies have rewarded the top run-getters of the domestic Super50 ODI tournament, Amir Jangoo and Justin Greaves, with a spot in the squad for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
For Jangoo, the highest run-getter in the recently concluded List A tournament with 446 runs at 89.2, it is the maiden ODI call-up. Meanwhile, the second-highest run-getter Greaves (401 runs at 133.7), it is a comeback to the side after sitting out of the home series against England. Greaves also notched up his maiden Test hundred in the first match of the ongoing two-Test series against Bangladesh, scoring 115 not out.
"Greaves is capable of batting anywhere in the top six and brings that genuine all-round ability to the squad, which is welcomed at this stage," West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said in a press release. "Jangoo's prowess in the CG United Super50 shows his flexibility to bring another dimension to our batting unit,” he spoke on the uncapped player making it to the squad.
West Indies have omitted the leg-spinner Hayden Walsh and the 17-year-old batter Jewel Andrew from their winning squad against England. Both players were non-playing members of the squad. Andrew, as informed in the release from Cricket West Indies, will join a group of batters for a training camp at the Chennai Academy, where young Caribbean batters will work on batting in spin-friendly conditions.
"We continue to build towards the main target of the Men's 50-over World Cup where we are looking to broaden the pool of players even with the short-term objectives of winning series, especially at home and building momentum on the recent win against England," Sammy said.
The rest of the squad is the same. The three ODIs, to be played at Warner Park in St Kitts, are scheduled for December 8, 10, and 12.
