West Indies recall Kemar Roach for India ODIs
NEWSAllen, Bonner, Bravo, King and Walsh are the other five members who didn't feature in the home series against Ireland
West Indies have named Kemar Roach in their 15-man squad for the three-match One-Day International series against India, which will be played in February.
The 33-year-old paceman hasn’t played any white-ball cricket - either List A or T20 - since August 2019, while Fabian Allen, Nkrumah Bonner, Darren Bravo, Brandon King and Hayden Walsh Jr are the other five members who didn't feature in the home series against Ireland.
Roston Chase, Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales, Devon Thomas and Justin Greaves were part of the squad that played against Ireland but have been left out for the India series.
"Kemar Roach is one of our leading fast bowlers and we believe we need bowlers up front to get early wickets. Kemar, with an economy rate of five, is certainly good enough to play," said Desmond Haynes, who recently replaced Roger Harper as West Indies' lead selector.
"We want to have competition for places. We want to reach a stage where we have a lot of players fighting for positions. We want to broaden the pool of players we have to choose from. The team we have selected is a very good side and we are looking at this tour as part of the preparations for the World Cup in India in 2023."
West Indies recently lost an ODI series against Ireland. They managed to defend 269 in the first encounter, but could only manage scores of 229 and 212 in the next two games, allowing Ireland to win the series 2-1.
The Caribbean outfit will take on India in three games, all part of the 2023 World Cup Super League, in Ahmedabad on February 16, 18, and 20. The Men in Maroon are currently involved in a five-match T20I series against England and are also scheduled to play three T20Is in India, for which the squad will be picked after the England series gets over.
