West Indies vs Sri Lanka, ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Match 35: Fantasy Preview

Here are a few tips that might help you create your fantasy team for Match 35 of the ICC T20 World Cup between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

West Indies will take on Sri Lanka in an evening encounter on Thursday, 4th November, at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After dismal performances in the first two games of the Super 12s, the defending champions bounced back with a three-run win in their last game against Bangladesh.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka have won only one out of the last four matches in the Super 12s. In their previous game against England, Jos Buttler scored a scintillating hundred to propel the Three Lions to a comprehensive 26-run win.

There is not much to choose between the two sides as they have locked horns in 14 matches, with each team winning seven games. However, in the last five encounters, West Indies have dominated proceedings and won four games.

SUGGESTED TEAM

While you could go for the above team, you also have the option of choosing your team from Cricket.com’s Fantasy Research Centre. You can use this tool to build your team with the help of algorithms. Then, based on your preferences, the platform will guide you through creating the ideal fantasy XI.

GROUND DETAILS

The average first innings total at Zayed Cricket Stadium is around the 132-run mark. The batters have struggled to get off to a flying start in the powerplay and have scored at a run rate of 5.8 compared to 7 and 7.5 in the middle overs and at the death.

The wicket at this venue is known to assist the pacers with the new ball. The fast bowlers have picked 80 wickets in 20 innings at a wicket per inning ratio of 4 compared to 35 scalps at a wicket per ratio of 1.8 by the spinners.

SUGGESTED CAPTAIN

Charith Asalanka

Charith Asalanka has been one of the mainstays in the batting unit of Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter 163 runs in five innings at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 140.5 in this edition of the tournament. Coming in at number three, Asalanka has taken the attack to the opposition bowlers and given the team a flying start, especially in the powerplay. The 24-year old has been in sublime form and scored an unbeaten 80 in their opening match of the Super 12 against Bangladesh. Asalanka will be the key player for the side and will look to give the team a solid foundation at the top of the order.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Asalanka to score 30-44 runs in this match.

X-FACTORS

Evin Lewis

One of the most destructive players in the white-ball format, Even Lewis, will be a player to watch out for in the Windies batting unit. With the top order struggling for runs, the onus of the side will rely heavily on Lewis. The left-hander has scored 68 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 138.8, including a half-century in the tournament. In T20Is since 2019, the 29-year old has a strike rate of 152.9 in the first six overs, which is the best among players in the top ten nations with a minimum of 200 runs.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Lewis to score 18-26 runs in this match.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Only the third player to pick up a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup, Wanindu Hasaranga, has picked up 14 wickets in seven innings at an economy rate of 5.3 in the tournament. The leg spinner wreaked havoc and derailed the middle order of the Proteas to help Sri Lanka inch closer to a win. Hasaranga is second in the list of T20I bowling rankings and will be vital for Sri Lanka in the middle overs.

With the bat, the 24-year old has scored 119 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 148.8, including a match-winning 71 against Ireland earlier in the tournament. Sri Lanka would rely on his all-around abilities to guide them over the finish line in this clash.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Hasaranga to score 7-11 runs and pick up 2-3 wickets in this match.

Roston Chase

Despite being uncapped before the start of the competition in this format, Rostan Chase made his way into the national side on the back of a prolific show in the Caribbean Premier League. The right-handed batter was the leading run-scorer for St Lucia Kings, with 446 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 144.34. With Sri Lanka having plenty of left-handers in the middle order, Chase would be handy with his off-spin in the middle overs.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts Chase to score 19-29 runs and pick up 0-1 wicket in this match.
