West Indies Women name squad for Bangladesh series with World Cup qualification in mind

Bangladesh can go past New Zealand, who have 21 points and qualify directly for Women’s World Cup 2025

Cricket West Indies (CWI) named their women’s squad to face Bangladesh in a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and an equal number of ODIs, all of them scheduled to be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.

These matches are going to be important as West Indies, who are already out of the race for direct qualification to the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in India, based on the ICC Women’s ODI Championship rankings, would look to stop Bangladesh from direct qualification as well.

Bangladesh, currently at 19 points with three matches to play, can go past New Zealand, who have 21 points. The Tigresses would need at least one win and a tie or a no result if they cannot get two wins from the three ODIs. Thus, West Indies would not want to face a stronger opponent, New Zealand, in the qualifiers.

This is going to be the first-ever bilateral series between the two nations, who have previously met in just one ODI and four T20Is, with all of them taking place in the ICC tournaments.

The Windies team would be led by Hayley Matthews and include Cherry Ann Fraser as well as Jannillea Glasgow, who've been called up after an impressive showing in state cricket in Tasmania, Australia.

Both have had prior experience playing for the Windies, with Fraser being part of 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is, while Glasgow has played four T20Is as well. The series will begin with the first ODI on January 19
