Western Storm will face Loughborough Lightning at the County Ground, Bristol in Match 11 of the 2019 Women’s Cricket Super League on Tuesday, August 13.
Western Storm currently find themselves at the top of the standings with 12 points and a net run-rate (NRR) of +0.514, while Loughborough Lightning are placed fourth, having won only one of their three matches so far.
VENUE AND PITCH
This will be the first and only match to be played in Bristol in this season of the Super League. Historical data at this ground shows that there is bit of variation when it comes to team totals. In the two completed first innings in the tournament’s history, one produced a total of 161 and the other 122. Interestingly, on both occasions, the team batting second won.
On the bowling front, in terms of economy rate and strike rate, pacers have enjoyed more success here as you can see in the graph below.
Further details show us that right-arm pacers have taken 16 out of the 23 wickets to fall on this ground. There have been only 18 deliveries bowled by left-arm pacers, which yielded one wicket.
Captain Heather Knight (129) and Fran Wilson (127) have done majority of the run scoring so far in this tournament. Smriti Mandhana hasn’t lived up to her potential yet, having scored just 64 runs in three matches so far. But with the talent she possesses, she can change this trend anytime.
Deepti Sharma, on the other hand, hasn’t gotten enough opportunities with the bat and things are unlikely to change the way Storm’s middle-order have been batting.
On the bowling front, Claire Nicholas has been the key bowler, having taken six wickets in three matches. Deepti has been economical but has failed to pick enough wickets. The experienced Anya Shrubsole, though, has been leaking runs at more than nine an over and has taken just one wicket.
Amy Jones (101) and Hayley Matthews (75) have done the bulk of the scoring so far. Chamari Atapattu scored an unbeaten 40 in the last match but has bowled just five overs in three matches. With the pitch unlikely to assist spinners, she might not be a good fantasy pick.
Sarah Glenn (5) and Kirstie Gordon (4) have been Lightning’s main wicket-takers so far. Although she’s unlikely to get much help from this pitch, Gordon has been the only bowler to have completed her quota of four overs in all three matches.
