Nothing’s going right for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season, and skipper MS Dhoni knows it. He accepted the issues in his batting side as it kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the first innings. The result was that they lost the 10th game of this season.
However, on the other side, 43-year-old Dhoni saw 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57 off 33) and 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre (43 off 20) bat with a lot of panache and spark in Delhi. Ian Bishop didn’t miss an opportunity to ask Dhoni for his advice for these young batters that are emerging in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“They have to try for the consistency, but if you are looking for 200-plus strike rate, then consistency is hard to get,” Dhoni said on the young guns.
“They have the ability to hit sixes at any stage. They don't have to take pressure when the expectations rise. Learn from senior players and coaching staff. It’s about reading the game as well. This would be my advice to all the youngsters who have done well,” Dhoni added.
Meanwhile, Dhoni remarked that while the likes of Dewald Brevis batted well, losing one or two more wickets in the first half proved costly for CSK. Dhoni also spoke highly of the pacer Anshul Kamboj.
“It was a good total, Brevis' innings was really nice, taking risks. The run rate was up but we lost one or two more wickets at the start,” Dhoni said.
“Kamboj is good, he gets a lot of movement, his balls hit you harder than what you might expect, he's good. He’s done well. Bowling three overs in the powerplay is tough.”
CSK are on the last spot on the points table after 10 losses in 13 games.
