Follow UsWhat was expected to be a record created by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and Hasan Eisakhil, was eventually created by Timor-Leste's Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail as they became the first father-son duo to play international cricket together and bat in the game together.
The record was made in Timor Leste's maiden appearance in international cricket when they played against Indonesia in a T20 tri-series. The game was played on November 6 in Bali, Indonesia.
The duo has gone on to play two more matches together, one against Myanmar and the other against Indonesia again on November 7 and 8 respectively. While Sattar is 50, Yahya is 17 years old.
Eisakhil and Nabi, who have played against each other in domestic cricket, have not been able to play together in international cricket as 19-year-old Eisakhil has not made his Afghanistan debut. Nabi, 40, has already played so many matches and is nearing his retirement.
Another famous father-son duo to have played together is that of West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine. They played 11 First-Class games together for Guyana.
However, Yahya and Sattar are not the first duo to play international cricket as parent and offspring as a mother-daughter duo of the Switzerland women's team, Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju, have played six T20Is together.
