Mithun Manhas, one of the most gritty and humble guys on the domestic circuit during his playing days for Delhi and later on, Jammu and Kashmir (one season), was elected as the newest President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 28 (Sunday).
He was elected unopposed, and upon being asked the reason behind such support, Manhas said, “[It is because of] Maybe my work, my credentials as a cricketer, as an administrator. For the past four years I've been at the J&K Cricket Association."
"It's an absolute honour to be the president of the world's finest cricketing board. At the same time, it's a huge responsibility and I give my assurance that I'll be committed to do it to the best of my abilities and dedication and passion,” added the man, who would soon turn 46.
The 94th annual general meeting of the BCCI was where Manhas was elected unopposed as the BCCI’s 37th elected president, replacing Rajiv Shukla, who was working as interim president. Eventually, Manhas replaced Roger Binny, whose tenure had come to an end in August this year.
The right-handed batter Manhas started his domestic career way back in the 1997-98 season and played till 2016-17. He featured in 157 first-class games, 130 List-A matches and 91 T20s, scoring a total of 15010 runs across formats.
