When India-Pakistan play, everything comes to a standstill: Roger Binny

The BCCI president spoke at a gala dinner in Lahore following an invitation from the PCB to visit Pakistan

BCCI president Roger Binny and his deputy Rajeev Shukla are in Lahore following an invitation from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a gala dinner. The duo are expected to watch a couple of Asia Cup 2023 games at the Gaddafi Stadium as well.

Thanking the PCB for the invitation and hospitality, Binny spoke about what the rivalry between the two nations means to the people.

"I would like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for the invitation to tonight's programme. I bring you greetings from the BCCI and from the cricket lovers of India. As your Excellency said, India-Pakistan is one of the biggest games that is played. I can tell you, sir. When India plays Pakistan, everything comes to a standstill," Roger Binny said at the event.

"People don't work, the roads are empty. Everybody's in front of the television watching cricket. That's how big cricket is in India and Pakistan," the former cricketer added.

Binny's visit to Pakistan marks a significant moment in the Indo-Pak cricket relations. India have not toured Pakistan since 2006, and the two nations last faced off in a bilateral series in 2012-13 when Pakistan toured India for a couple of T20Is and three ODIs.

Since then, India and Pakistan have met only in Asia Cups and World Cup events. Their most recent match was in the Asia Cup, which was washed out. The two teams will once again clash in the Super Fours stage of the tournament on Sunday (September 10) in Colombo. The arch-rivals will also compete in a World Cup fixture on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
