India may have won the first One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa by 17 runs, but there are still question marks over team selection. Ruturaj Gaikwad made his return to the ODI side and was slotted in the middle-order in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. However, one player who will hope to make an appearance is Rishabh Pant, who has not played ODIs for over a year.
In fact, Gaikwad scored heavily in domestic cricket as an opener, but was asked to play at four in Ranchi. Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes Pant should have been in the team.
"They are not in favour of playing Rishabh Pant either. When will you play him? This was the opportunity to slot him in the middle order. They played someone at number four who hasn’t done so before, so was number five," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
"I still don’t understand this team’s batting order. It’s a different type of disorder. The three titans of the golden generation somehow made the match for Team India."
India will hope to keep it going in the second ODI in Raipur, set to be played on December 3 (Wednesday).
