Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant did the toss against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and then WENT MISSING for 19.4 overs in the first innings.
It was only after LSG lost five wickets that Pant walked out to bat against his former franchise and got out for a two-ball duck.
Pant, who has mostly batted at No.4 in the IPL 2025, didn’t come out to bat after Mitchell Starc knocked over LSG’s No.3 batter Nicholas Pooran. Abdul Samad was given the No.4 spot before David Miller and Ayush Badoni came out to bat at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Samad and Miller scored 16 runs off 23 deliveries between them, completely breaking the rhythm provided by LSG openers Aiden Markram (52 off 33) and Mitchell Marsh (45 off 36). At No.6, Badoni smashed 36 off 21 deliveries, but everyone was baffled by Pant not coming out to bat before the final over.
The wicketkeeper-batter walked out to bat after Mukesh Kumar bowled Badoni on the fourth delivery of the 20th over - Pant’s latest entry point in the IPL. This is the third time Pant has batted at No.7 or lower in the IPL. The last time he batted at No.7 in the IPL was way back in 2016.
Pant couldn’t even open his account tonight. The left-handed missed the first ball before trying to reverse hit Mukesh, only to end up deflecting it back onto the stumps.
