Three losses out of their last five IPL games have now put the spotlight on Delhi Capitals’ squad construction, as the 2020 IPL finalists have gone from first on the table to middling ground. Even in their previous clash against SRH, it was their batting which was extremely lackadaisical, as they could only post 133/7 after their 20 overs.
It hasn’t been a lack of form from one or two individuals, as a collective disaster has seen DC hand off advantage to the opposition. Karun Nair has suffered a massive dip, seeing three single-digit scores since his explosive start to IPL 2025, and so has KL Rahul, who has scores of 7 and 10 in his last two games.
Former Indian cricketer turned critic Aakash Chopra has questioned DC’s batting unit, stating that they have hardly turned up on big occasions over the last few games.
"Your batting is not firing. You lost faith in Jake Fraser-McGurk. Faf du Plessis has hardly played one or two knocks. Karun Nair has played one knock,” Aakash Chopra told on his YouTube channel.
“Abishek Porel has played two-and-a-half knocks. KL Rahul has played a few knocks. However, he has gone off the boil. After that, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel. You weren't supposed to play a punt on them," Chopra added.
DC were struck with a vital blow at the start of the IPL 2025 season when key middle-order batter Harry Brook pulled out of the season. The franchise are yet to name a replacement, and only have time till the 12th game for the team in the season.
"Where is your replacement for Brook? They haven't taken one, and won't get it as well if they don't take it in the next two days. That story has ended for them," he observed.
