Shimron Hetmyer, who faced criticism for failing to finish several games for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has now delivered three back-to-back match-winning performances for Seattle Orcas in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025.
After smashing an unbeaten 97 off 40 balls against MI New York and a blistering 64* off 26 against Los Angeles Knight Riders, the left-handed West Indian batter continued his red-hot form with a scintillating 78* off 37 deliveries against San Francisco Unicorns on July 2 (Wednesday – IST). His knock powered Seattle to a thrilling four-wicket win, chasing down 169 with three balls to spare.
The Orcas found themselves in a spot of bother at 63/4 after 10 overs, but Hetmyer took charge of the innings and only left the field once the job was done. He struck four fours and seven sixes during his explosive innings.
Needing eight runs off the final over, Hetmyer hit Romario Shepherd's second delivery for a six and then got two off the next ball to finish the game for his team.
Hetmyer is now the third-highest run-scorer in MLC 2025, having amassed 309 runs in six innings at an average of 103 and a strike rate of 220.71.
Seattle, who had lost their first five matches of the season, have now bounced back with three consecutive wins. They must win both of their remaining league games to stay in contention for a spot in the playoffs.
