Veteran seamer Mohit Sharma has announced his retirement from all forms of the game, bringing to an end a professional career that spanned nearly 14 years across domestic cricket, the IPL and international cricket. Confirming his decision through an Instagram post, he wrote: “Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing.”
Mohit made his first-class debut for Haryana in 2011, rising quickly through the domestic ranks before earning his India call-up. Between 2013 and 2015, he featured in 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is, picking up 37 wickets across both formats. He was part of India’s 2015 World Cup squad and finished as the team’s joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
In the IPL, Mohit became a dependable new-ball and death-overs bowler. He won the Purple Cap in 2014 for his 23 wickets with Chennai Super Kings and enjoyed a notable late-career resurgence with Gujarat Titans in 2023, taking 27 wickets at age 35. His final IPL stint came with Delhi Capitals in 2025, where he played eight matches, claiming 2 wickets at an economy rate of 10.28.
Across formats, Mohit accumulated significant numbers, picking 127 wickets in 44 first-class matches, 86 wickets in 78 List A games, and 167 wickets in 172 T20 matches. In the IPL alone, he finished with 134 wickets from 120 matches.
In his retirement note, Mohit expressed gratitude to his state association and mentors, saying: “A very special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the backbone of my career. And my deepest gratitude to Anirudh Sir, whose constant guidance and belief in me shaped my path in ways words cannot express.” He also thanked the BCCI, his coaches, teammates, IPL franchises and support staff, while adding a personal acknowledgement: “Special thanks to my wife … I look forward to serving the game in fresh ways.”
Mohit exits as a respected professional whose career was marked by commitment, discipline and resilience, leaving behind a notable legacy across Indian cricket’s domestic and franchise circuits.
