Ben Dwarshuis got cap number 248 as he made his ODI debut for Australia in the first game of the five-match ODI series against England at Trent Bridge on September 19 (Thursday).
The pacer was rushed into the Aussie squad only last month after an impressive showing in The Hundred and T20 Blast. In The Hundred, he took four wickets and scored 60 runs in two games for the Northern Superchargers, while in Blast, playing for the Durham side, he took seven wickets.
However, this is not Dwarshuis’ Australian debut. He played his first match in Aussie colours during a T20I against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, in 2022. He has since played two T20Is against India in 2023.
The 30-year-old is a bonafide Sydney Sixers legend, having played 106 matches. He has taken 134 wickets at an average of 22.17 and scored 456 runs, including one fifty. His runs have come at an average of 15.72 and a strike rate of 138.76.
Dwarshuis was picked by the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on two different occasions in the Indian Premier League but did not play in any games. Before making his ODI debut, the left-handed batter and left-arm pacer was part of 20 List-A games for the New South Wales side in Australia.
