G Kamalini became the youngest debutant in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history after she was named in the playing 11 of the Mumbai Indians on February 18 (Tuesday) for their match against Gujarat Giants (GG) at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium in Vadodara.
Debuting at 16 years and 213 days, Kamalini broke the previous record of youngest debutant held by Shabnam Shakil, who played for Gujarat Giants at 16 years and 263 days.
A member of the U-19 World Cup 2025 winning Indian team, Kamalini comes from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. She was bought for INR 1.6 Cr at the WPL 2025 auction by the Mumbai team.
Though Kamailini scored only two fifties in the U-19 World Cup, she was second-highest run scorer in the India’s Women’s U-19 Trophy after scoring 311 runs in eight matches.
The left-handed batter also scored 44* in just 29 deliveries in her first game of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup against Pakistan. Kamalini practices at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in Chennai.
Parunika Sisodia, another member of the World Cup winning Under-19 Indian team, also made her WPL debut today. She replaced experienced Saika Isahque in the playing 11.
Parunika, a left-arm spinner and right-handed batter, took seven wickets in the Under-19 World Cup held in Malaysia earlier this year. This included 2/6 in the final against South Africa.
