After deciding against playing him in the final Test against England at The Oval, Jasprit Bumrah was released from the squad and has headed home. He played three Tests in the series, as it was announced ahead of the series, to manage his workload.
Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been playing together for some time now, and have played pivotal roles in helping India to victories over the years. The duo share a close bond, and as a result, Siraj left a heartwarming message for the pacer.
“I told Jasprit Bumrah, ‘Why are you leaving? Whom would I hug after taking five wickets?” Siraj shared in a video posted by the BCCI.
“He said, ‘I’ll be here. You just take the five.”
Siraj fell one short of a five-wicket haul in the first innings, finishing with 4/86, including massive wickets of Joe Root and Harry Brook.
Prasidh Krishna, who also picked up four scalps, also spoke of the growing bond in the Indian pace attack. "Siraj and I have been playing together for five years, including in the IPL. We talk a lot off the field. Same with Akash Deep — the fast bowling group is looking really sharp," Prasidh said.
As a result of their bowling efforts, England were bowled out for 247 in response to India's 224. The visitors will start Day 3 with a 52-run lead with Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 51.
