An interesting event took place during the second T20 International (T20I) between New Zealand Women and Sri Lanka Women at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on March 16 (Sunday). New Zealand opener Georgia Plimmer was given out for four off five deliveries after she was adjudged caught behind off left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari.
The ball pitched a tad outside off, and it further spun away with Plimmer poking at it. It was a clean catch taken by wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani, and the umpire's finger went up right away, but the question was whether Plimmer actually got some bat on it.
Plimmer was not convinced and, in fact, asked her batting partner Suzie Bates about it and eventually walked off. What was puzzling to see is that Plimmer did not even think of taking a review when there were two left.
The 21-year-old got off to an excellent start in the match, smashing a boundary off the very first ball she faced, and could not add to it. She was also dismissed for just two in the first game.
Her wicket did not affect the White Ferns as they chased down 114 successfully with seven wickets and nine balls to spare. They bounced back in this game after going down by the same margin in the first T20I.
The action will shift to the series decider in Dunedin on March 18 (Tuesday)
