Why Is Rishabh Pant Missing DPL 2025 Even Without Any India Matches in August?
The wicketkeeper-batter featured in only one game for Purani Dilli 6 in the 2024 edition
India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the forthcoming Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, which begins on August 2 (Saturday).
Pant sustained a toe fracture during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, where he was struck on the right foot by a full delivery from Chris Woakes while attempting a reverse sweep. Scans later confirmed the injury, sidelining him for at least six weeks. As a result, Pant missed the final Test at The Oval and the entire second season of DPL.
Pant featured in only one game for Purani Dilli 6 in the 2024 edition, scoring 35 off 32 balls. Despite limited involvement, the franchise retained him ahead of the 2025 season, hoping for a full campaign this time. However, they will once again be without their marquee player.
In the IPL 2025, Pant had a poor run for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), scoring 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.2. Notably, 181 of those runs came in just two innings, while he managed only 88 runs in the remaining 12 matches.
However, Pant looked back to his best in the Test series against England, amassing 479 runs in seven innings at an average of 68.42 and a strike rate close to 80 before the injury ruled him out of the final match.
India don’t have any international fixtures scheduled for August, which could have allowed Pant to play a full DPL season. Unfortunately, injury has once again disrupted those plans, and Purani Dilli 6 will have to move forward without him.
