South Africa lost two deciders in back-to-back series from positions where they could have won. Their head coach, Shukri Conrad, feels that the only improvement they need is in the players’ ability to show off.
"I think sometimes we can be too humble. We don't show off enough to the world what we're capable of doing,” Cricbuzz quoted Conrad as saying in the post-match press conference after South Africa lost the third and deciding T20I against Australia on August 16 (Saturday).
Praising Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Dewald Brevis, Conrad said, "He's obviously going to grow older, but I hope he continues to play like a 22-year-old. Sometimes, with experience, guys tend to adjust the way they play. He's a breath of fresh air.”
Brevis scored a century and a fifty in the last two matches of the series, which was a massive boost for the Proteas despite their series loss. They had earlier lost the T20 tri-series final against New Zealand in Zimbabwe.
Advocating how the likes of Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram can play aggressive cricket and show off, the World Test Championship-winning coach said, “Guys like Stubbs, Ricks and Aiden himself... there's so much that they can do. But they feel that they have maybe boxed themselves in a little bit too much."
"It's not always going to result in winning. But I just want us to show off a bit more. As you know, I live in Cape Town. I get to see a lot of it,” added the 52-year-old, referring to his hometown.
South Africa will now play an ODI series against Australia before heading back home.
