Shakib Al Hasan’s troubles with Bangladesh don’t seem to end, as an arrest warrant was issued against him and two others on January 19 (Sunday) by the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman.
The arrest warrant was issued after Shakib failed to appear before the court on January 19, the date given during the first hearing of a financial case involving Bangladesh’s greatest all-rounder and his agro-based company.
International Finance Investment and Commerce (IFIC) Bank filed a case against Shakib and his company after they failed to honour the cheques of an amount nearing 41 Billion Bangladeshi Taka (BDT).
The case reached the courts, and on December 18, they ordered Shakib to appear before them as head of Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd. However, Shakib has been away from Bangladesh ever since the Awami League government of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was overthrown in August 2024.
As a result, Shakib could not appear before the court and now faces an arrest. It would be very difficult for Shakib to come back to Bangladesh as he missed playing his farewell Test at his home ground.
He has not taken part in the Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 and was not selected in the national team’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 after he was ruled out to bowl due to suspected action.
