In the age of digital media, it's become increasingly hard to differentiate between real and fake news. Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was caught in one such situation as quotes attributed to him regarding Asia Cup 2025 circulated online.
On July 28 (Monday), Ashwin tweeted, quoting one such misleading post on X (formerly Twitter), where it was attributed that Ashwin had said that the World Championship of Legends game between India and Pakistan was cancelled because a small amount of money was involved, while India would play Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 because large amount of money is involved.
In the quote that Ashwin referred to as misleading, it was written, “The amount of money decides the level of patriotism of Indian cricketers.”
Refuting the post, Ashwin, on his official account, wrote, “Don’t associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this.”
Recently, former Indian players, part of the India Champions team, refused to play their match against the Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends game in England. This was due to escalated tensions at the border between the two nations since May.
Soon after that, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the Asia Cup 2025 schedule with both India and Pakistan a part of it.
