Jemimah Rodriguez, Smriti Mandhana and Radha Yadav, three players, part of the Indian women’s team that lifted the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 by defeating South Africa in the final, will be rewarded by the Maharashtra state government, headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Few people might be in shock as to why these three players were picked as they do not even represent the same teams in domestic cricket. The reason for this lies in their domicile.
All three players, along with head coach Amol Mazumdar, bowling coach Avishkar Salvi, team massage therapists Mamta Shirsulla and Purva Kate and team analyst Aniruddha Deshpande are residents of Maharashtra.
While Mandhana represents Maharashtra, both Radha and Jemimah have played for Mumbai. While Jemimah continues to play for Mumbai, Radha shifted her cricketing base to neighbouring state Gujarat’s Baroda.
Salvi and Mazumdar are Mumbai greats who played a lot of cricket for the side. While Mazumdar could not go on to play for India, Salvi did.
The felicitation ceremony will take place on November 7 in Mumbai.
Other states too have announced separate awards for their players. Here’s what players are getting differently from their states apart from the BCCI prize money of INR 51 cr.
